PRACTICE NEWS On this Page
Howden Medical Centre will be changing the way we make appointment bookings for GPs as from 1st July 2019.
Many GP Practices have, or are moving towards, full telephone triage for GP appointments. Following review of our GP appointments and trialling of telephone triage for GP access, we have concluded this works extremely well and will be implementing this fully as from 1st July 2019.
The aim being, to ensure patients receive timely access to our service in the most appropriate way in relation to their health problem. Many patients can be consulted safely over the telephone receiving advice, guidance, prescriptions, signposting to the appropriate service or onward referrals without having to attend the surgery. This in turn frees up capacity to ensure those patients who the GP feels need to be seen, can be seen.
What does this mean for patients? Instead of contacting the surgery to book an appointment to see a GP, you will book onto the list for a telephone call with a GP. The GP will ring you on the number you have told us you will be available on and will carry out their consultation over the phone, providing you with advice or any further follow up as required, this may take many forms for example:
∑If you need advice and guidance on a condition this will be provided
∑Should you need a prescription this will be issued
∑If a referral is required and can be done without seeing you, you will be referred
∑Should you need to be signposted to another service they will provide you with that services contact information
∑If the GP feels they need to see you they will arrange a mutually convenient appointment to attend the surgery
∑If you attend to see a GP and a follow up appointment with them is required, they will arrange and book that appointment with you there and then
Different ways to book consultations and how to contact the surgery
Online Services As from 1st July 2019 a large proportion of our telephone consultation appointments will be available to book online via online services. We would advise patients if they arenít already signed up to this service to do so. You can book appointments, order repeat prescriptions, and view your GP medical record including test results online.
Some specific appointment types such as cryosurgery and a range of nurse appointments will remain bookable only by telephone due to the specialist nature and in some circumstances, prior consultation or tests to be done before the appointment.
Online Consultations No need to telephone us or book an appointment, consult with us online instead. You can access this service via the home page of this website 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You do not need an account or login to do this and it can be used for children as well as adults. You can send us administrative queries or questions via this service as well as consulting with us regarding a medical problem, and if you require self-help information relating to your medical problem this can also be accessed via this system. We aim to deal with your online consultation the next working day
. Nurse Appointments We are currently working through our nurse appointments to make more of these available for booking via online services. Patients will begin to see more of these available via online booking during the next few months. When this happens please work with us by only booking into an appointment type which relates to your specific health condition.
Improving Access Appointments Due to increasing demand on General Practice Services, NHS England has implemented Improving Access Services across the country.
GP and Nurse appointments are now available in the East Riding of Yorkshire during the evenings and at weekends running from different practice locations on different days of the week. If you choose to book one of these appointments the clinician will have access to your GP Medical Records and can consult safely and effectively.
If you would like to book an appointment in this service please ask reception who can check availability and book you in.
Telephone You can still contact us by telephone to book consultations/appointments and with queries and questions as before. We hope more patients start to utilise online booking and our online consultations system which will free up the telephone lines for those patients who need to contact us by telephone providing faster access and a more efficient service.
We have updated our telephone system with call queueing, this tells you your queue position and allows you to hold on or choose to have a call back when your number reaches the front of the queue. Please be aware if you choose a call back you must be ringing from the number you can receive the call on. Our phone system will only try to call you back once, if you do not answer, have no signal or are engaged when it rings you it will not ring you again. Obtaining Copies of / Access to Results, Letters and Medical Records We would encourage patients to sign up for access to online services. Once you have signed up and requested access to your full GP medical record, you can print copies of results, letters and your GP medical record yourself whenever you need them without having to contact the surgery to obtain these.
If you wish someone else to act on your behalf with regards to your medical matters and be able to contact the surgery to obtain information about you, you should have a Power of Attorney for Health and Welfare in place. If you do have one in place please provide this to us so that we can add this information to your GP medical record.
Howden Medical Centre strives to provide an excellent service in the most appropriate, efficient and effective way to our patients. We hope you will work with us to achieve this by utilising the range of services we offer to patients to access both the service and your information.
Howden Medical Centre would like to thank the Patient Participation Group (PPG) again this year for yet another amazing stall at Howden Show.
The bottle stall and hampers looked amazing thanks to the hard work of the PPG and again was very popular Raising £1,117
And a big thank you to our patients for donating fantastic items again this year as well as financial donations. Without your kind generosity the PPG would not be able to put on a stall at this event or one of such quality. It is greatly appreciated.
